Designing and Staffing a Cybersecurity Department
Introduction
A multi-billion-dollar distribution company needed help in designing and staffing a cybersecurity department and they asked ISS Global to help through our 7 Layer Staffing division.
Background & Context
The company is a regional distribution company with some overseas operations. They have multiple large distribution locations and thousands of employees spread out across multiple states. Due to the numerous cyber threats presented across the globe and in their industry, the company determined that their existing staff lacked the key skills necessary to thwart the threats. Their customers require services six days per week and any disruption would be devastating to the business in terms of revenues and reputation.
Challenges
The institution’s security posture before the attack revealed significant vulnerabilities:
- Limited Expertise: The client’s internal recruiting team lacked the knowledge of the specialized skills that would be required by an internal cybersecurity team.
- Industry Focus: The client staff had limited knowledge about the compensation and resources in support and tools that are required to attract the top cyber security experts.
- Deliverability Issues: Time was of the essence and the internal recruiting team lacked the industry know-how of where the best resources could be found.
Solutions Implemented
ISS Global presented one of our existing top-level employees as an immediate ad to their internal IT team to shore up the existing staff as an hourly consultant.
Our team member was able to provide a vulnerability management review, incident response logs, security awareness training, and compliance management.
The quality of the work performed was so exemplary that the client asked us to hire our consultant as a full-time permanent employee and we agreed.
ISS Global has continued to support the client with additional external and full-time hires as needed. The senior management now has a viable and flexible internal and external solution that covers their cyber security concerns.
Outcomes
Forward thinking has now provided the client with the proper internal and external staff that can handle continuous assessment, which provides improved threat detection, better cost efficiency with enhanced necessary compliance.
Using ISS Global as a strategic partner allowed the client to concentrate on what they do best while also ensuring the “world class” attention necessary on how to properly staff and secure an enterprise.
